In the realm where architecture, art, and fabrication converge, Pittsburgh-based artist and designer Brian Peters has pushed the boundaries with his latest creation, the Dyadic Series. This limited-edition collection of 3D printed ceramic sculptures has reimagined the possibilities of additive manufacturing, presenting a woven aesthetic that defies convention.
Peters, known for his multidisciplinary approach, seamlessly integrates technology as a means to an end rather than the end itself. He artfully combines digital coding, custom-built technology, contemporary aesthetics, and natural clay, prioritizing the harmonious marriage of these elements over machine-made perfection.
By modifying his 3D printer, he has achieved a textured design reminiscent of woven surfaces found in outdoor PVC rugs, as you can see in the images. Employing two different colors of clay, the printer constructs each piece, allowing the colors to blend and meld, thereby becoming an integral part of the artwork. No post-fabrication glazing or coloring was needed at all.
Drawing inspiration from the beauty of the natural world, Peters captures the essence of flora, intricate patterns, and contemporary geometries in his sculptures. These intricate designs boast woven-like textures, compelling viewers to reach out and explore the tactile qualities of the clay.
Each sculpture in the Dyadic Series is a unique piece, signed and numbered by Peters himself, reflecting his artistic integrity and commitment to craftsmanship. While Peters’ artistic repertoire encompasses a wide range of scales, from intimate works to site-specific installations, one of his vessels will be showcased at the Hunterdon Art Museum for Clay Bash 2023 until September, as part of a prestigious triennial juried exhibition of ceramics.
