Norsk Titanium’s 3D Printers Qualified for Airbus Production

Norsk Titanium, based in Hønefoss, Norway, has achieved a huge milestone by successfully qualifying its Merke IV additive manufacturing machine and patented Rapid Plasma Deposition (DED) technology for Airbus component production. The announcement comes after rigorous testing and validation, positioning Norsk Titanium as a key player in the aerospace manufacturing sector.

Utilizing its advanced additive manufacturing technology, Norsk Titanium specializes in the production of aerospace-grade structural titanium components. These components, created with the Merke IV AM machine and the plasma-based wire Directed Energy Deposition process, are already integrated into commercial aircraft currently in operation.

Premium Aerotec, an Airbus subsidiary situated in Varel, Germany, has placed an order for an initial structural part, signifying the industry’s confidence in Norsk Titanium’s capabilities. The company is actively fulfilling this order, with the first additively manufactured preforms already delivered, machined, qualified, and seamlessly integrated into an A350 assembly.

This announcement not only underscores Norsk Titanium’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of aerospace innovation but also solidifies its role in shaping the future of metal additive manufacturing. With the successful qualification of the Merke IV and DED technology, Norsk Titanium is poised to play a pivotal role in the evolution of manufacturing processes within the aerospace industry.
