Danos Integrates 3D Printing in Offshore Pipeline Protection

Danos, in collaboration with climate tech firm Natrx, Inc., has launched a specialized facility in Amelia, Louisiana, focused on producing high-performance, nature-based modules for coastal resilience using DryForming, a unique 3D printing technology. This center aims to create ExoForms, also known as “Cajun Coral,” designed for coastal restoration projects. These modules enhance coastal protection and promote the growth of native marine life.

The DryFormer, essential in this production, arrived from Natrx and was operational within a week. This technology enables the production of tailored concrete modules for restoring natural habitats along coastlines and riverine areas. The 5,000-square-foot facility boasts the capacity to produce significant quantities of Cajun Coral, offering an alternative to traditionally sourced heavy rock.

Strategically located for easy shipping access, the facility also plans to develop and deploy mobile DryForming units, expanding Danos’ global resilience capabilities. Eric Danos, CEO of Danos Ventures, highlighted the DryFormer’s effectiveness in coastal restoration, pipeline protection, and artificial reef construction, emphasizing its cost-efficiency and uniqueness.

Natrx CEO Leonard Nelson also expressed gratitude for partnering with Danos, underscoring the importance of their first industrial-scale production facility in Louisiana. The Cajun Coral, tested against storms, not only provides robust protection but also supports marine biodiversity. Danos, apart from manufacturing these bioengineered modules, offers comprehensive coastal restoration services including project management.

The integration of 3D printing technology in coastal and pipeline protection by Danos and Natrx marks a pivotal development in the field. This approach not only addresses environmental and industrial challenges but also opens avenues for innovative, eco-friendly solutions, and habitat restoration methods.
