Collaboration Set to Advance Aluminium Alloys for 3D Printing

Constellium, an aluminum specialist, and Morf3D, a subsidiary of Nikon, are collaborating to enhance aluminum alloy used in additive manufacturing. They aim to qualify Constellium’s Aheadd CP1 metal powder for the SLM500 AM machines by Nikon SLM Solutions. This powder, developed for higher throughput in large-format AM, promises optimized particle size distribution, cost reduction, and increased printing productivity.

The focus is on producing lightweight, high-performance components like heat exchangers, exploiting the powder’s unique properties. This collaboration responds to the growing demand for large-format AM, aiming to revolutionize the industry by enhancing design flexibility and material properties of aluminum alloys.

“Our partnership with Constellium holds immense importance in advancing the development and qualification of advanced aluminum alloy for Additive Manufacturing, now particularly in the context of the SLM 500 platform,” said Dr. Behrang Poorganji, Chief Technology Officer of Morf3D.

“Together, we are pioneering the development and qualification of CP1 aluminum alloy to unlock new potential for lightweight, high-performance components such as heat exchangers produced by AM innovations.”

The partnership is a strategic move to meet market demands and drive advancements in aluminum’s use in additive manufacturing. It’s expected to contribute to more efficient and cost-effective production processes, leveraging the strengths of both companies.
